Chapter 3 (First Day at Academy)
by Cyan EclipseThe moment Ezrina stepped through the gates of Moonveil Academy, she felt the attention shift toward her almost instantly. Whispers spread quietly through the courtyard. Not loud enough to be considered rude. But loud enough to be heard.
“That’s her?”
“The wolfless girl?”
“She’s smaller than I expected.”
“No wolf and still got invited here…”
“I heard she killed a rogue alone.”
“That has to be exaggerated.”
“Maybe the academy accepted her out of pity.”
“Pity doesn’t get you into Moonveil.”
The murmurs followed her with every step across the stone courtyard. Students dressed in expensive uniforms stood gathered beneath towering silver buildings, their pack crests stitched proudly against dark fabrics. Noble heirs. Future Alphas. Children raised with privilege and power. And in the middle of all of them, walked a girl who belonged nowhere. Yet strangely,Ezrina moved through the crowd far too casually.
No hesitation.
No instinctive caution.
No lowered gaze.
She walked past dominant wolves the same way one would walk past ordinary strangers. And that alone immediately drew attention. Because within werewolf society, rank was instinctively felt. Powerful wolves naturally pressured weaker ones into submission without even trying. Most students unconsciously stepped aside for higher-ranking heirs. Avoided eye contact with stronger Alphas. Lowered themselves instinctively near dangerous wolves. Ezrina did none of that. Being wolfless meant she could not sense ranks at all. To her, everyone simply looked like people. So while the other students interpreted her calm behavior as confidence, arrogance, or hidden strength, the truth was almost laughably simple. Ezrina genuinely had no idea who she was supposed to fear.
Meanwhile a very smug thought crossed Ezrina’s mind, ‘Maybe we wolfless people are just naturally prettier than werewolves, that’s why everyone is staring at me,’. The worst part is, she genuinely seemed proud of that conclusion.
The nearby students wondered about what exactly was going on in her mind catching the tiny self-satisfied smile on her face. And suddenly the whispers became even stranger. Some looked curious. Others openly amused. A few stared at her scars with poorly hidden disgust.
“That girl just walked past a high-ranking Alpha without reacting…”
“Does she not feel his aura?”
“She’s either insane or ridiculously strong.”
Yet none of it slowed Ezrina’s footsteps. She had spent years surviving alone in forests while wolves hunted her. Judgmental whispers felt almost harmless compared to that. Still, the atmosphere around her remained tense. Because despite the mockery, no one truly looked relaxed near her either. After all, rumors about Ezrina did not end with being wolfless. Everyone within Moonveil had heard the same story before she arrived.
The wolfless girl who ripped apart a rogue wolf with her bare hands.
And perhaps that was exactly why the students could not stop staring. Because monsters were easier to understand than mysteries. And Ezrina had become both.
Over time, Moonveil slowly became less hostile. Not entirely. But enough.
Ezrina eventually found herself surrounded by a small group of unexpected friends. People who laughed with her during training. Shared meals beside her. Argued with her. Defended her.
Though naturally, not everyone welcomed her presence. Bullies followed eventually. Arrogant heirs irritated by the attention surrounding the wolfless girl. Yet causing trouble for Ezrina proved far more difficult than expected. Because despite her straightforward personality, she was dangerously clever when necessary. Every attempt to humiliate her somehow ended with the instigators embarrassing themselves instead. Especially whenever teachers became involved. Ezrina always looked innocent by the end of it. A talent that frustrated several noble students beyond reason. And perhaps that was the strangest thing about her.Despite entering Moonveil as someone who belonged nowhere, Ezrina slowly carved a place for herself anyway.
